Donovan Bailey

Werner Hendrich, aged 27, a BMX street rider and Founder of Daylife Bmx.

Born and raised in Cape Town South Africa, the “Mother City”.

As a youngster growing up in Kraaifontein, a small suburb in the Western Cape, Werner discovered a passion for Bmxing. It was sparked when his older brother found a wrecked, rusty Bmx in the forest. Karl brought it home and together they rebuilt and fixed it up. The two brothers then started riding together and since then Werner was hooked.

It’s the little things in BMXing that kept him addicted. Persistence and relentless practice, pushing yourself to learn the next move, land the next trick, leaves you with the most incredible sense of accomplishment. It is a challenging and difficult process but when you land it, once you got it, it’s the most amazing feeling in the world.

In this country, the sport is fairly undeveloped and facilities are limited. With such few options of spots to ride, Werner and his friends had to cruise the streets in search of great new places that their urban environment had to offer, making the most of what there was.

Werner’s sport is his sanctuary, keeping his mind clear and free of mundane, everyday problems. All he wants is to spread that feeling and promote what BMX truly is, and show to others what it has to offer.
